Highland Spring sparkles in the on-trade

Highland Spring has secured the number one brand position in the UK on-trade sector for the first time.

 

Highland Spring was the fastest growing major brand +10% by volume and has overtaken Strathmore to become the Number 1 Brand in the on-trade sector with 12.8% volume brand share (AC Nielsen On Premise Ytd May 2008) 

 

Commenting on the result, Sally Stanley, marketing director of the UK’s leading produced brand of bottled water said: “It is a real coup for Highland Spring to have become the leading brand in the on trade sector.  The strength of the brand’s glass range, combined with the efforts of our sales team have been the main forces behind our success in this extremely competitive sector.  We’re looking forward to building on this to expand our opportunities in the on trade sector as 2009 approaches.”

 

The consumption of bottled water in on premise outlets has increased in the Ytd with more than 40 per cent of consumers drinking bottled water when dining out. In Scotland this increases to 47% (NOP May 2008). 

 

The UK smoking ban is assisting this trend as more families enjoy eating out in a smoke free environment.  During the past 12 months sales of sparkling water grew faster than still water to represent 47% of all bottled water value sales in the on-trade.  If this trend continues then sparkling could soon account for the majority of bottled water purchases in the on-trade sector.  Highland Spring has increased its Sparkling sales by an impressive 34 per cent overtaking Strathmore to the No.1 brand of sparkling water with 15.4% share (AC Nielsen On Premise Ytd May 2008). 

 

The number of consumers drinking bottled water has steadily grown over the past few years, with over 55% of the adult population (26.9 million adults) in the UK now drinking it (TGI Q2 2008), an increase of 54% since 2000.

 

Highland Spring is a business built on natural sustainability.  The water is drawn from a protected, organic source beneath the Ochil Hills in Perthshire, and is the perfect accompaniment to fine food and wine.
